SUMMER POOL

I watched her swim,

in the solar haze,

until her silhouette

lifted from the pool by

her bending and unbending

glassbright body, which

upon reaching the lawn,

pressed against the flat blue sky.

Her red toes vanished

into thickets of grass

and refugee dandelions.

She sprouted with the flora

her long body then curving,

dipping her yellow hair

into the thick white towel.

Wanting to preserve her

but unable to,

I simply watched,

as she dried her hair in the sun.
